Cave near the village of Dush
Cave near the village of Dush-Kline, Kosova
A cave, near the village of Dush is situated at the northern edge of the regional natural park of Mirusha, in central Kosova. Speleological exploration was made by a group of speleologist from the speleological section of the Mountaineering Club “Zeleznicar” from Zagreb. The cave is 495 metres long in total. It is formed within upper cretaceous stratified rudist limestones (Maestrichtien). During the wet season, the water from the stream Dush disappears through a group of intermittent holes, and flows into the cave.
The cave was formed during quaternary, after the lift of a block of cretaceous limestones which occurred within the youngest tectonic movements. A direct dependence of the morphological features of the cave and the faults and systems of structural fissures striking NNW-SSE and NE-SW, was found.
The roundness of rocks in the cave, the size of entrance and numerous whizling potholes are prove of a strong erosion activity of water as the most significant factor which caused the enlargement of primordial tectonic ruptures and the formation of this cave.
